AKA: Trendy Punk; SoCal Punk; Crappy Punk. Whatever you want to call it pop punk is exactly what its name says. It's popular punk rock. Many people disagree that pop punk is actually a part of the punk family. These are the people who only listen to hard core punk and don't like the fact that people who listen to pop punk call themselves punx.

Pop punk is quickly gaining a name for itself amongst teenagers and the "younger" crowd. Pop punk has less of an edge as the true or hard core punk has. The only reason it's asociated with punk at all is the fact that the songs are short, quick and catchy with guitar riffs and stories about life.

Whatever the reason people have to denounce pop punk as a part of the punk scene, pop punk is here to stay. And the fact that pop punk has done more for punk music, and music in general, in the last few years than any other form of music is proof enough. Kids listening to pop punk are getting turned on to other forms of punk and bands that they never knew existed. And I'm all for anything that promotes punk in general.
