Ever since punk music came onto the scene it's gotten a bad rap. Punx get this stereo type that they are rude anarchists with no respect for authority and a three foot tall green mohawk. Truth is most punx I know are more normal than everyone else. They are more down to earth than the "normal" people, who listen to all the popular music on the radio, and they even have a more open mind to what other people like and don't like.

On the other hand most people who do listen to all the popular radio stations, or have to be the first ones to buy the latest rap CD, don't even give punk music a chance. They figure if it's not on MTV then it sux. These are the people who like what other people tell them to like so they don't feel like an outcast.

Punk music is totally different than any other music. The reason it gets a bad rap is because it's loud music with people "screaming" or "yelling" out lyrics. Not all punk music is loud though. Bands such as the Vandals, All, NOFX, and MxPx are great examples of "soft" punk. These bands mostly have songs that could fit into the pop punk category, however they also have hard core punk songs that are the essence of punk rock. These bands also have the punk image that pop punk groups lack.
